From Wassand to Beverley, A Good Year

Charlotte Eldred, Frances Kelly and Phil White are a trio of artists creating in the inspiring surroundings of Wassand Hall. Over the last 12 months, from carpets of snowdrops to the beautiful formal gardens, Wassand Hall has provided a perfect sphere of calm and shared experimentation, connecting with nature for these paintings and drawings.

Frances Kelly

As an Artist / Printmaker, Frances Kelly’s works identify places real and imagined. They are instinctive combinations of drawn and dream landscapes, collaged and painted on recycled materials, from packaging collected from around the world. The freedom of creating on these papers enable her to link with her own personal travels and love of visual emotive pieces. They are for you to add your own narrative.

Phil White

Phil White is increasingly recognised as an artist of considerable talent. His recent Waves of Colour exhibition, timed to coincide with the reopening of The Beverley Art Gallery wowed audiences with a vibrant mix of abstract and figurative painting, 3D works, projection and soundscapes. In addition to two larger examples of his work, in this exhibition, Phil has included smaller works – each painted on wood from the Wassand Estate, near Hornsea. Phil recalls:

“…one of the Wassand Estate team came into the studio and handed over a bag of wooden offcuts – some Yew, some Oak – and asked ‘can you paint on these Phil?”

Once sanded and sealed, views painted on the surface…so yes. Turns out you can!

Charlotte Eldred

Charlotte Eldred’s art is designed to inspire happiness. She creates uplifting pieces that use bold, bright colours to bring joy and positivity to others. Charlotte approaches each artwork without a predetermined plan, allowing the creative process to guide me. Beginning with doodles of patterns and shapes,  she lets composition evolve organically, mirroring the natural growth of the subjects that she paints.
