PlayLab 2024 was a great success!

Wow! PlayLab 2024 at East Riding Theatre was held over three days and it was incredible!

Featuring seven outstanding plays over three days, PlayLab was directed by Richard Avery and Clive Kneller.

The launch night of PlayLab got off to a fantastic start…

“Voices From The Past” was a compelling 30-minute drama about growing up in Sheffield during Thatcher’s government, written by local playwright Nicola Bailey. Andrea Asbury delivered a superb performance, complemented by a voiceover from Richard Avery.

“The One Good Thing” featured a remarkable 90-minute comedy-drama about two Irish brothers grappling with love, forgiveness, and the afterlife, penned by American playwright Joseph Bravaco. Michael Kinsey and Peter McMillan gave outstanding performances, enhanced by Richard Avery’s narration and exquisite singing by Alice Palmer.

The second night of PlayLab 2024 was another outstanding success…

“Cicadas” was a gripping drama by Jeff Tullin. After keeping a secret for over 10 years, it was now time for two former Russian spies to emerge into the light. Excellent performances by Andrea Asbury and Richard Avery with voiceover by Clive Kneller and narration from Rob Wade.

“Healing by The Hem” provided a captivating drama about a clothing bank up North by Sarah Rumfitt. Superb acting was provided by Laura Peterson, Richard Avery, Alison Shaw, Rob Wade, Alice Palmer and Andrea Asbury. Narrated by Clive Kneller.

The PlayLab finalé was yet another night not to be missed…

“For The Love of Money” featured a comedy drama by Catherine Derrick, which was set in Beverley with a miserly middle-aged couple trying to con an old lady out of all the money in her will. Sasha Walker- Allen, Alison Shaw and Pete McMillan all gave a highly entertaining performance

“Pest” was a poignant drama about domestic abuse and an abusive relationship by an Purdew. Laura Peterson and Michael Kinsey dcaptovated the audience with their dynamic acting.

“Wax and Wayne” was a comedy written by Phil Smith, focussed on hree men at a waxing palour, talking a big game, but being terrible. Rob Wade, Michael Kinsey and Charlie Blanshard provided a very entertaining performance, with additional narration by Clive Kneller.
