Your chance to hear readings from the UK’s Poet Laureate
Saturday 10th August | 7.30pm
Catch the Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, reading and in conversation at East Riding Theatre when he joins writer and producer Dave Windass to discuss what Armitage calls the ‘twilight zone’ where poetry and song lyric converge.
Armitage has explored this territory most recently for some key projects as Laureate by writing, recording and performing with the ‘ambient post-rock’ band LYR. He will read from his first collection of song lyrics, ‘Never Good with Horses’, which celebrates his ear for the music of language, and from ‘Blossomise’, an instant Sunday Times bestseller this year.
Join in with our Q&A session during the show, hosted by local writer and producer, Dave Windass
This event includes audience Q&A and will be followed by book-signing – hosted by The Beverley Bookshop – where you will have the opportunity to buy copies of Simon’s various works.
Simon has many great reviews… this really is an event not to be missed!
“[His] caustic readings work splendidly, particularly Simon Armitage’s exceptionally lovely “Zodiac T-Shirt”.’

‘[Armitage’s] observations, witty tone and accessible style belie some searing analysis of 21st-century life in the UK … Essential reading.’
